Welcome to Hyphen!

Welcome to the official Hyphen (working title) website! This film is the next of many previous versions I've created throughout my art/film career. From documenting my everyday life in high school with my first camera, creating a "that was then, this is now" video assignment as a new college art major, to finishing college with an experimental video/animation about my definition of change, and creating a video installation about remixing oneself in grad school. Version 5 takes a fiction narrative spin that will be exciting to share with even more audiences.

Seeing these personal memoirs evolve and take on different forms is nothing less than amazing. I hope audiences will be able to take what they want from my film and maybe even be inspired to create and continue supporting different kinds of stories. Though my story is my own about being a female/US Latina/immigrant history/first-generation/Boston/artist, Hyphen is ultimately about the human condition each character goes through to break from, well, any hyphen or label. Maybe you'll relate if you've ever had parents sacrifice their happiness for you, felt a growing invisible rift between you and your partner, felt unsure of your place in the world, or even been in absolute awe hiking to the highest peak you've ever climbed, the multi-layered Hyphen will have something for you.

Welcome again to the momentous ride that will take place for a year. Thank you for joining us.
